Engaged Researcher Online - Introduction To Media Engagement (STEM & Clinical School)

Description

This course gives an introduction for researchers working in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Clinical subjects into how to engage with the public through media. It will cover the differing types of media, what makes research newsworthy, how to work with the communications office to gain media coverage, what to expect from an interview (print, pre-recorded, live) and how to communicate well in interviews. It will be delivered by the University Communications team.

Request for participants: preparation for the course
  • Please email to gb498@medschl.cam.ac.uk ahead of the session your reasons for wanting to communicate your research via the media. Do you have any concerns about engaging with the media?
  • When reading, listening to or watching the news ahead of the session, please consider what makes something newsworthy and join the session prepared to share your thoughts
  • You will be e-mailed a week ahead of the course some press releases on different topics (science and politics). Look at them and join the session ready to discuss their common elements and structure
