Data management is an important skill for any researcher to manage but it can be overwhelming to know where to start. This self-paced, interactive module guides learners through the different components of building a data managment strategy for their project including storage, sharing and organisation. The module also includes an activity to build a README file for data to prepare it for wider sharing.

This module covers the following topics:
- What is data and why should it be managed?
- Dealing with personal data.
- Data backup.
- Data organisation.
- Sharing data.
At the end of the module, learners will be able to :
- Understand the reasons why you need to manage your data.
- Evaluate and select an appropriate data management strategy for your project.
- Describe your research funder and/or institutional policy regarding data sharing.
- Organise your data for sharing with the wider community.
The module will remain available for all and learners are free to complete it at their own pace. Registering via this website allows you to add the module to your University training record.
