GIT: Revision Control using "Git"

Introduction to using the "'Git'" revision control system. This short introduction will get you started with 'git', and show you how to keep a record of your files in a particular project, audit them, revert changes, and collaborate with others. We will work on building a simple program using the Python language.

• A basic knowledge of Linux command line tools (ls, mkdir, cd, etc. and an editor). Knowledge of Python is useful, but not required.
• Basic familiarity with Linux command line similar to Unix: Introduction to the Command Line Interface

Number of sessions: 1

• Learn basic usage of "git"

• Learn how to create a "repository", add files to it
• Make edits and audit changes, upload to a remote repository
• Work with others using "branches"
• Pull requests and merges
• Look at the tools available online to help make a project easy to manage

• Interactive lecture with student practicals
