Description

The courses are delivered in a blended-learning mode, face-to-face and online through CamTools (the Cambridge University virtual learning environment). The focus is on spoken, oral/aural communicative competence. Students are required to attend to online multimedia materials and read the proscribed texts in their own time so that the classroom time is dedicated to face-to-face communication/discussion.

The Course introduces students to functions and notions such as:

  • Talking about themselves and their family
  • Describing their home
  • Work and daily routine
  • Talking about past events
  • Sport and leisure activities
  • Travel and tourism
  • Food and cooking
  • Climate and the environment
  • Health and illness
  • Future plans
Objectives

By the end of the Course students will be able to:

  • Listening/Speaking
  • Express opinions on abstract/cultural matters in a limited way or offer advice within a known area, and understand instructions or public announcements.
  • Reading
  • Understand routine information and articles, and the general meaning of non-routine information within a familiar area, including basic Kanji (150 characters).
  • Writing
  • Write letters or make notes on familiar or predictable matters, comfortably using Hiragana/Katakana and Kanji (150 characters).
Aims

At the Elementary 1 Level the main aims are:

  • To further develop and refine the understanding and an appreciation of the salient linguistic features of the Japanese language.
  • To establish the learner as a confident language user in a wider range of every-day predictable situations as well as in situations related to study and work.
  • To further introduce students to the complex historical and cultural background of Japan within the context of language teaching.

Charging
  • Students Fees: £250 to be paid online.
  • Staff Fees: £280 to be paid online.
  • Please select ‘All charged’, not ‘Concessionary’ under the course fee when you make your booking (the ‘Concessionary ’option is not applicable to CULP courses).
