Content Community: quick wins for old content new [Places] 10:30 - 11:30 UIS Online Courses - instructor-led

Improving old content can be a daunting job. When you’re faced with a page full of dense, complicated information that needs to be accurate, it can be difficult to know where to start. And when content is only part of a busy role, it can be hard to find time to make the changes you know would make it more useful, engaging and accessible.

In this session we'll open up the content designer’s toolbox and learn some quick and easy ways to refresh and revive old content that isn’t working as it should.

Regular Content Community attenders will be familiar with some of the techniques we’ll go through. But with a focus on quick wins, this session will inspire you to see the potential in your content without having to rip it all up and start again!

We’ll include live demonstrations, examples and a couple of quick exercises. There will be plenty of time for questions.

Content Community: accessibility statements new [Places] 10:30 - 11:30 UIS Online Courses - instructor-led

Learn about accessibility statements and what you’ll need to do if your site is or will be on the UIS-hosted Drupal 10 platform.

An accessibility statement is a page of content on your website which:

  • shows people that they can be confident your website is accessible
  • allows people to contact you if they get stuck
  • tells people which, if any, areas of your website they might struggle to access
  • helps our websites and services to be legally compliant

Some areas and features of the Drupal 10 platform are managed by UIS. These are features that editors can’t change, such as some visual designs and web components. A separate accessibility statement for these areas of the platform will be published by UIS.

This event will help you understand accessibility on your site and how you can do some basic checks. We will also show you how to edit the template accessibility statement with information about your platform-hosted website.

Topics

  • What an accessibility statement is
  • Why your site needs to have one
  • Template text for sites in the UIS Drupal platform
  • What to do if you need to edit the template
  • How to perform some basic accessibility checks on your site

Everyone is welcome to attend but the template and some of the other information is tailored to people responsible for managing websites that are or will be on the Drupal platform.

If you are not able to make this event or your site is not due to be moved to the Drupal platform in the next few months, you will be able to watch a recording.
