Word 365: Dissertations, Theses and Long Documents (Live Online Using MS Teams)

Description

This course is mainly aimed at undergraduate students writing their first thesis, but is also suitable for staff who need to write a long document. It is designed to give an insight and hands on practice into the more advanced features of Microsoft Word that are relevant to producing substantial reports.

Please note that the course is taught using Microsoft Teams and you must have Teams installed on your computer to participate. See System requirements below for more information

  • Understand and use the Track Changes feature in Word
  • Create and apply Styles
  • Understand and work with the Navigation pane
  • Insert and edit Footnotes and Endnotes
  • Understand and work with Captions
  • Insert a Table of Figures
  • Create and delete Cross References
  • Create and work with Headers and Footers in long and complex documents

System requirements
  • The instructor will be using Word 365 on Windows, but Mac users please attend, both versions are now closely matched.
  • You should use the Word desktop app.
  • It is possible to use Word online via Edge or Chrome but there is less functionality when using a browser.
  • Important: The instructor cannot troubleshoot access to Microsoft Teams on the day of the course. If you are in an institution that is managing their own Teams tenancy (CAMENT, JBS, medschl and some of the colleges) then you may not have access to the files or calendar used in the course. Please contact the instructor in advance to discuss this.
  • It's advisable to make a test call in advance of the session.

  • The course will be taught using Word 365 on a Windows computer, but will also be suitable for Word 2016/2019 users. Apple Mac users should also find it useful.
