IWD 2025: Gender Differences In Brain Development And Mental Health In Adolescence (In Person Face To Face) New
This session is taking place as part of International Women’s Day (IWD, 8 March 2025).
Adolescence is a period of life hallmarked by change: changes to hormones and the body, changes in the social environment, and changes to the brain and the mind. Many mental illnesses first appear during adolescence, and there are gender differences in terms of prevalence and onset of mental health problems. What is it about adolescence that increases vulnerability to mental health problems, and what underlies the gender differences?
Sarah-Jayne Blakemore FBA FMedSci FRS is a Professor of Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, where she leads the Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Group. Her research explores the development of social cognition and decision-making in adolescence, and adolescent mental health.
