This is an interactive workshop, designed to help new staff learn more about the Cambridge University Library and meet some of the key people who work in it. Staff will take part in some fun activities to learn more about other departments within the Cambridge University Libraries, have a presentation from a member of the Leadership Team about the wider workings of the University and have time to check their HR24 Induction Checklists and meet other new starters. Designed to be more informal, this workshop is a great opportunity to meet other staff, make contacts and ask any questions that you may have come across in your first month of employment. |

PLEASE NOTE that until further notice, due to the evolving situation with Coronavirus no courses will be offered as classroom based at the Training Facility. The Bioinformatics Team are investigating a workable solution to offer some of the courses on a remote basis and will be in contact with updates as soon as possible. This course will provide training for bench-based biologists to use molecular data to construct and interpret phylogenies, and test their hypotheses. Delegates will gain hands-on practice of using a variety of programs freely-available online and commonly used in molecular studies, interspersed with some lectures. Please note that if you are not eligible for a University of Cambridge Raven account you will need to book or register your interest by linking here. |

This course builds on the knowledge gained in AP Part 1. The delegates will learn how to match invoices to purchase orders, add in freight charges and process invoices from other departments. The course also covers international payments including accounting for VAT and foreign currencies. Delegates will also learn more about month end procedures and AP Reports. |

Medicine: Getting the best results - improving your database searching (for NHS staff only)

A course specifically for NHS staff. Attendees will learn how to search databases accessed with an Athens login (such as Medline, Embase and Cinahl) effectively and efficiently, to learn how to save searches and references, and to create and maintain a bibliography. All attendees are required to have an NHS Athens login. University of Cambridge staff and students wanting to learn similar material should book onto the Introduction to Literature Searching (for University) course instead. UPDATE: Please note that this session is taking place remotely, not in the Medical Library as previously advertised. Please do not go to the Medical Library training room. You will be contacted by the training team with information about how to join the session remotely. |

This awareness training is for all staff who are regularly involved in moving and carrying loads and setting up equipment etc. The course involves theory, video and a practical demonstration by the instructor. Also available to deliver in departments and colleges where a more bespoke course maybe useful. See Unscheduled events for more details. |
This course is a short introduction to cataloguing in the Alma metadata editor. It’s suitable for beginners who have some knowledge of MARC or experience of editing holdings and items. We will look at creating records from templates, downloading records from external databases, editing information in catalogue records and practise cataloguing some novels. |

This workshop will help you to consider the variety of situations and contexts you find yourself leading in and guide you in understanding your leadership skills and abilities so that you can improve them and deploy them thoughtfully. We will look at a variety of meanings and views of leadership, discover the 4 elements of leadership, consider various leadership styles, and reflect on leadership within and out of research environment. We would encourage you to take this workshop as a brief introduction to leadership before attending more in-depth workshops, including Postdocs: Self-Leadership and Postdocs: Leading Others.

This session will discuss a number of ways to increase your productivity during your studies. Firstly we will look at how to decipher your reading lists, before moving onto reading and note taking techniques. We will also take a look at how you can prioritise your tasks and time. Finally we will look at some of the ways you can create your perfect working atmosphere - from comfy seats to background noise apps. Update Due to the outbreak of COVID-19 and concerns around both staff and student safety the Moore Library has taken the decision to move all of its training sessions online for the foreseeable future. Please do not go to the Moore Library at your scheduled session time as this will no longer be running. A recorded version of this training session will be uploaded on the date of the session. If you are interested in receiving an email notifying you of this, please sign up for the session. We will then circulate the links to the resources, as well as linking them here. Cambridge Admissions Office has organised a series of briefing sessions in the coming weeks aimed at Schools Liaison Officers, Faculty/Department Outreach Staff, and any academics and staff members who will communicate with potential students. Aimed at outreach practitioners with less experience using targeting/selection on their outreach programmes, this skills-based session will provide examples of good practice implementing targeting/selection drawn from experience running CAO programmes. The session will also explore ways to use other data sources and HEAT to make the process easier. This session follows on from a briefing delivered in March explaining the new targeting/selection criteria adopted by the Collegiate University. |
