How do you make your research palatable to the press? Do you stumble and fumble when in front of a camera? Are you protective about your research, wary of handing over all your hard work to a journalist? Join Dr Eliza Filby, founder of GradTrain and lecturer at King's College London for this one-day media training course especially designed for researchers interested in engaging with the media at all levels.

GSLS PhD students and post-docs. PhD students lease note that 2nd, 3rd and 4th years may find this course of more benefit that 1st years.

Prepare and bring:

1. 150-word script on your research, designed for a BBC Radio 4 audience. Please bring this with you printed off rather than on a tablet or iphone. You will not need to memorise this.
2. 1 paragraph (no more than 250 words) on your research which positions it as a 'news story'. Try answering these questions: What is new about your research? Is it newsworthy? What is the great revelation? How does it improve the world, services, business etc or tell us something new?

• Work on a potential pitch for discussing your research to broadcasters
• Learn how to tailor your discussion to your audience
• Gain insight into the broadcasting process
• Try out what it's like to be interviewed on camera
