Poster presentations are a well-established format for presenting research findings within STEM subjects. The past few years has witnessed a growth in poster presentations across a number of AHSS conferences. Given the infancy of this phenomena, it stands that a number of researchers within AHSS remain unsure on the question of content design and delivery.

During the session, therefore, we will explore what makes a successful poster presentation in AHSS and examine how key components of a poster can be designed to make the poster more effective to your target audience.

This is a beginner’s course covering the basics of poster presentations.

If you have a specific poster that you are currently working on (e.g. for a forthcoming conference), then you can use the session to gain feedback on it. If you have already presented a poster, we encourage you to bring a copy to the session for the purposes of discussion and reflection.

• Improve understanding of what makes an effective poster presentation in AHSS
• Understand the importance of deciding on key message(s) and narrowing the scope of a poster
• Have a clearer idea of good poster design, planning, layout, graphics, illustrations, colours, text and data/narrative display
• Increase confidence in their ability to answer questions and interact with the audience.

There will not be a scheduled break in this session, so you are encouraged to go to the Whale Café on your way in and pick up a drink. If you show your University card, you will get a small discount!
