PLEASE NOTE The Bioinformatics Team are presently teaching many courses live online, with tutors available to help you work through the course material on a personal copy of the course environment. We continue to monitor advice from the UK government and the University of Cambridge on resuming in-person teaching back in the training room. The Ensembl project provides a comprehensive and integrated source of annotation of mainly vertebrate genome sequences. This workshop is aimed at researchers and developers interested in exploring Ensembl beyond the website. The workshop covers how to use the Ensembl REST APIs, including understanding the major endpoints and how to write scripts to call them. Please note that if you are not eligible for a University of Cambridge Raven account you will need to book or register your interest by linking here. |

This course covers viewing, processing and recording data for applications, adding notes and attachments, generating rejection emails, generating electronic reference requests, processing applicants through the selection process and transferring successful applicants to CHRIS. The system used is Web Recruitment.

This course will look at the differences and similarities between your natural accent and that of Standard English. It will help to maintain positive aspects of your natural accent whilst enabling you to be easily understood by native English speakers. This course will be facilitated online via Zoom. |

This is an online instructor-led course to help you get to grips with spreadsheet basics using Microsoft Excel. It will be taught in a small group and no previous knowledge is assumed. Following on, we offer further online instructor-led courses that build on these fundamentals to extend your skills (see Related courses below). A series of 30 minute drop-in sessions to talk with one of the Simplifying our Processes team. We offer expert, impartial advice relating all things process improvement and want to support our colleagues on their own continuous improvement journeys. Please note, these sessions are informal, 1-2-1 meetings where colleagues can ask for advice and guidance from the Simplifying our Processes team. These are not workshops or taught sessions. The Simplifying our Processes team will be available 9-10 and 4-5 every Tuesday and Friday - each hour can be split into two sessions of 30 minutes depending on demand. |

CULP: Mandarin Chinese for Business

This course is designed for students and staff of the Judge Business School at Cambridge University, who have no prior or have little knowledge of Mandarin Chinese but wish to learn to communicate with native Chinese speakers in business settings. For the language elements, the course is focused on key business communications in four areas: Present yourself and your business; establish business relations; business work and travel; and promote your business. Another element of the course is to equip students to communicate effectively in the Chinese business context, through gaining a good understanding of Chinese company culture through industry case studies. This session will provide an overview of the support and resources available from the Biological Sciences Libraries Team, as well as other useful services from across the University of Cambridge, for undergraduate students taking their Part II year in a Biological Sciences subject. It will also provide an introduction to the various training opportunities on offer from library staff to help students with research projects and/or dissertations. Please note that some Part II cohorts will have a timetabled induction so be sure to check your course handbooks or other information before booking a place. These sessions are for Part II students based in departments with reduced or no library staffing during Michaelmas Term.
