DECIPHER is a collaborative data sharing and interpretation platform that enables the secure upload, analysis and subsequent sharing of anonymised phenotype-linked patient variant data in rare genetic disorders. DECIPHER is a worldwide user community of over 250 clinical genetics centres and research groups from over 40 countries that utilise the built-in tools for aiding the interpretation of variants as well as to discover other patients that share similar phenotype and genomic findings. DECIPHER facilitates collaboration and exchange of information between a global community of clinical centers and researchers leading thereby accelerating discovery and diagnosis. Access to consented anonymised records is free to all users. User accounts are provided to bona-fide clinicians and lab scientists to enable deposition and sharing of anonymised patient data. The purpose of this half-day workshop is to acquaint participants with the DECIPHER website and database and introduce the various built-in tools for visualisation and interpretation of phenotype-linked genomic variation in anonymised consented patient data. It is hoped that by the end of this workshop, users will be able to carry out effective searches of data, use the built-in genome browser to visualise variation in context of other pathogenic and reference data sources, find other patients with similar variants and shared phenotypes, and identify most likely causes of phenotypic presentation by gene prioritisation. All users of HF should be fully aware of and have a good understanding of the nature of HF. They should know how best to control HF, avoid accidental exposure and understand how to deal with accidental exposure to HF. All users of HF are strongly advised to attend this course. This course is also useful for First Aiders in Departments where HF is used. |

All PIs, group heads and supervisors are encouraged to attend this course which will quickly inform you of what you must do to comply with the law, keep you staff and students safe and reduce the possibility of litigation, thus reducing the overall risk to the University. |

The Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) programme is open to University IT Supporters. It covers network technology, protocols and theory at deeper levels reflective of University practices. There is a fee to attend this course and an additional fee to take the CCNA (200-120) certification exam. CCNA Routing and Switching provides a comprehensive overview of networking concepts and skills, from network applications to the protocols and services provided to those applications by the lower layers of the network, with an emphasis on practical application, work-force readiness, and soft-skills development. You will progress from basic networking to more complex enterprise and theoretical networking models later in the curriculum. There are four modules in the recommended sequence: We offer this program as instructor led with online access to the curriculum with the support of interactive media and an online networks laboratory called NETLAB. There is a mix of lecture, demonstrations and a heavy emphasis on practical activities using live lab equipment and a simulation package. Introduction to Networks is the first module of four modules in CCNA. Please book onto this first module to reserve your place for the whole programme. This module introduces the architecture, structure, functions, components, and models of the Internet and computer networks. The principles of IP addressing and fundamentals of Ethernet concepts, media, and operations are introduced to provide a foundation for the curriculum. By the end of the course, you will be able to build simple LANs, perform basic configurations for routers and switches, and implement IP addressing schemes. |

The Open Microscopy Environment (OME) is an open-source software project that develops tools that enable access, analysis, visualization, sharing and publication of biological image data. OME has three components:
In this one day course, we will present the OMERO platform, and show how Facility Managers can use it to manage users, groups, and their microscopy, HCS and digital pathology data. This blended programme comprises an online module and a face to face workshop. You will be expected to have completed the online material before attending the face to face workshop. The online module will provide you with a complete toolkit of project management skills (distilled from a number of sound project management “methodologies”) and an overview of various project planning techniques. It has been developed to help you focus on a project you are actively involved in (or one that is about to commence). You will apply a number of tools to real life situations and leave with a clear understanding of the major management issues and the basis of a clear and workable project plan. The face to face workshop provides an opportunity to build on the learning from the online module. Working with others you will identify options and strategies to help move your project forward and consider solutions to problems you may have encountered.
