If you are only going to need Read Only or Read Only with Export permissions this training is not required.

Physics Health & Safety: Physics of Medicine (PoM) Induction Finished 10:00 - 11:30 Department of Physics

General induction for users of the Physics of Medicine (PoM) building. This includes a guided tour of the facility.

Participants must have started the access process for PoM with the Rutherford Hub before booking onto this course. Participants will gain access to PoM only after successfully completing the Physics H&S Induction - see "Related Courses" below.

Need to get up to speed with Teams? Then join us in this friendly, slow-paced, introductory session to learn how to get up and running. This is Part 1 of 4 courses that provide you the opportunity to get a hands on and in-depth insight into Teams. If you prefer a quick overview of Teams then consider joining the Fast Track course instead. Please note that the course is taught using Microsoft Teams and you must have Teams installed on your computer to participate.

You will:

  • Understand Teams, Channels and an overview of what is possible in the application
  • Chat in a group or one-to-one
  • Collaborate with colleagues. In Teams you can access, share, and edit Word docs, PowerPoint, and Excel files in real time

If you book:

  • Add the event to your calendar by following the link in your booking confirmation email and click Add to Calendar.
  • Install the Microsoft Teams app. (It is possible to join using Edge or Chrome but there is less functionality when using a browser).
  • Important: The instructor cannot troubleshoot access to Microsoft Teams on the day of the course. If you are in an institution that is managing their own Teams tenancy (CAMENT, JBS, medschl and some of the colleges) then you may not have access to the files or calendar used in the course. Please contact the instructor in advance to discuss this.
  • If you are using Hermes for your email you will not be able to access the Teams calendar used in the course.
  • It's advisable to make a test call in advance of the session.
  • The course will start promptly at the time shown but will be open up to 30 minutes beforehand should you wish to check your audio and visual setup or meet your instructor.

CLIC: Chinese: Get the name right! new Finished 11:00 - 12:00 CLIC online teaching

“Pronouncing someone’s name correctly can make people feel valued, honoured and respected — and mispronouncing their name creates real problems.” Gerardo Ochoa

This session will explore Chinese names. How to pronounce them. What it says about the person. The stories behind names. The focus will be on pronunciation but you will also be welcome to share your own experience and tell your stories.

This online workshop will provide an accessible, non-technical introduction to Machine Learning systems, aimed primarily at graduate students and researchers in the humanities, arts and social sciences. It is designed as a preparatory session for potential applicants to our Interaction with Machine Learning Guided Project which will run in Lent Term 2022 in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Technology. However, it can also be booked as a standalone session.

This module is for anyone considering studying on an SSRMP module but not sure which one/s to choose. It provides an overview of the research process and issues in research design. Through reflection on a broad overview of empirical research, the module aims to encourage students to consider where they may wish to develop their research skills and knowledge. The module will signpost the different modules, both quantitative and qualitative, offered by SSRMP and encourage students to consider what modules might be appropriate for their research and career development.

You will learn:

  • The research process and the different stages it might consist of
  • Issues related to research design
  • To consider what data you will need to address your research aims
  • To consider the best methods to collect and analyse your data
  • What modules are offered by SSRMP and how they might be appropriate to your needs
