Getting Connected in Cambridge: Insights & Opportunities for Research Staff New
Researchers on fixed-term and open-ended contracts are one of the largest staff groups in the University, and many face distinctive challenges both in orientating themselves and in developing their careers. Whether a first-time postdoc or simply on your first contract at Cambridge, this event will provide invaluable information on how to navigate life as a researcher here, including a talk from Professor Chris Abell (Director of Postdoctoral Affairs).
The induction will begin with short presentations from the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPDA),Personal and Professional Development (PPD), the Careers Service and the Research Office. This won’t be an information overload, trawling through details of contracts, policies, benefits, and the like: instead, we will focus directly on advice from other researchers, identifying key themes from what your colleagues and peers say is important for you to know. Afterwards, you will have the opportunity to explore an exhibition of the full range of support and career development opportunities that are available to you during your time here. This will include: the PdOC Society, Cambridge Enterprise, Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning and more
Postdocs/Research staff
- This event is intended to be of most value to STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine) researchers who are in the initial six months of their first research contract in Cambridge, but it is open to any member of research staff who may wish to attend.
