The programme incorporates tutor input; opportunities for discussion, reflection and sharing of good practice with others with similar responsibilities. It also includes curated e-learning resources to support managers with their ongoing learning and development.

Participants are required to attend both half day sessions.

Before attending, please take some time to review the short Leadership Essentials: Management Responsibilities Films of other University colleagues talking about their role as a manager.

It is open to all those who are professionally responsible for others in the workplace, formally and informally.

In general, the format for these open meetings will include a brief welcome and update, followed by the opportunity to talk in smaller groups about current priorities and challenges, and discuss suggestions for the development of the Network. Themes and topics for further discussion may be identified for subsequent meetings and you are welcome to attend any dates that suit.

Please see Leaders and Manager Network to find out how to stay in touch and hear about further plans.

The Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) and Visas for Researchers Finished 10:30 - 12:00 N/A - PPD Zoom (Internal Ref:ATL)

Following a recent announcement by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCO), the Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) will be expanded to international researchers as well as international students.

The ATAS scheme currently applies to certain international students who require a visa to study in the UK and are intending to study at postgraduate level in certain sensitive subjects which may be “against the UK’s national interests”, predominately in programmes to develop Advanced Conventional Military Technology (ACMT), weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) or their means of delivery.

From 21 May 2021, the ATAS will be extended to cover ‘researchers’ intending to work in the UK in areas of research in these same sensitive areas. The ATAS requirement will only affect those applying for Skilled Worker, Tier 5 GAE and visitor visas.

The briefings will be run by Graeme Ross, Immigration and Compliance Manager for the HR Division, and will be held remotely via Zoom. The briefing will cover the known areas of guidance on how the scheme will operate, who will be eligible for an ATAS certificate, and the potential impacts on recruitment and immigration at the University.

For those who cannot attend either date, the sessions will be recorded and details will follow after the session.

You will have the opportunity to explore what development opportunities you could grasp and what networks might assist you. You will also have the opportunity to consider what’s holding you back and how you can overcome these barriers to fulfil your career aspirations. You will leave the workshop with a personal career plan in draft format, that you will be able to explore in greater depth during the second part of the programme.

Part 2

An hour-long one-to-one virtual career coaching session provided by a professional career coach from LHH, to take place on the 1st June 2021. The booking link will be circulated for participants at a later date.

Part 3

Access to an Online Career Development Tool designed to further support career development and progression. The tool enables you to assess your skills and behavioural attributes against the levels required for your current role, and for roles that you may wish to progress into in the future. 12:00
Team Leader/Supervisor Level 3 Apprenticeship Webinar Finished 12:00 - 13:00 N/A - MS Teams

During this period, PPD is keen to continue to promote development opportunities for University staff. This information webinar will help you to identify if you wish to progress your development by way of an Apprenticeship.

We are looking to explore what interest there is at this current time in this Team Leader/Supervisor Level 3 apprenticeship and hope that there will be sufficient interest to establish a University-wide cohort. By establishing University-wide cohorts, we are looking to encourage more departments to use apprenticeships as a way to provide focused professional development for staff. Participants will have the advantage of a peer group to work through the programme with.

The webinar will be presented by Corndel, who will deliver this apprenticeship. A team leader/supervisor is a first line management role, with operational/project responsibilities or responsibility for managing a team to deliver a clearly defined outcome. They provide direction, instructions and guidance to ensure the achievement of set goals. Working in the private, public or third sector and in all sizes of organisation, specific responsibilities will vary, but the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed will be the same whatever the role.

Key responsibilities are likely to include supporting, managing and developing team members, managing projects, planning and monitoring workloads and resources, delivering operational plans, resolving problems, and building relationships internally and externally.

A link to the webinar will be sent with the joining instructions when your booking is confirmed.
