The course aims to give an introductory overview of High Performance Computing (HPC) in general, and of the facilities of the High Performance Computing Service (HPCS) in particular. Practical examples of using the HPCS clusters will be used throughout, although it is hoped that much of the content will have applicability to systems elsewhere. |

Following on from the Photoshop CC: Introduction (Level 1) course, this course covers some of the more advanced features of Adobe Photoshop CC, which is the latest version of the popular image manipulation and editing tool for graphics and design professionals and photographers. The course will explore some of the more advanced features of Photoshop. Techniques will be explained and demonstrated, and participants will then be given the opportunity to practice these for themselves. Please note: This course requires that you use your CRSid and Raven password to log into Adobe Creative Cloud. If you currently log in to use Microsoft Office, then the same login details are used, and you do not need to do anything except to know your Raven password. Otherwise, if you do not know your password, or have not changed your Raven password in the last three years, you must do so before attending the course, please go here: https://password.csx.cam.ac.uk/ you can set the same password. Please arrive to START THE COURSE PROMPTLY in order to set up the Adobe environment, if you don’t then you may find it more difficult to follow the instructor. |

COSMIC, the Catalogue of Somatic Mutations in Cancer, is the world’s largest and most comprehensive expert manually curated resource for exploring the impact of somatic mutations in human cancer. Based at the Wellcome Sanger Institute and available publicly at https://cancer.sanger.ac.uk/cosmic, the latest release includes almost 6 million coding mutations across 1.4 million samples from over 26,000 papers. COSMIC captures the full spectrum of genomic data relating to somatic mutations, so in addition to coding mutations, gene fusions, non-coding mutations, copy-number variants, methylation and drug resistance mutations are included. This course will use the live COSMIC website and tools to show you how to access and explore this information, seeking to identify genetic causes and targets in all human cancers. The training room is located on the first floor and there is currently no wheelchair or level access available to this level. Not only are you managing the ups and downs of life in the lab, but you are probably balancing work and life and also have one eye on the future and what comes after your PhD… This workshop is designed to help you build emotional resilience. You probably already have some strategies in place so we will reflect on the highs and lows you have already experienced, look at some of the theories of resilience and consider how we can better support your coping and wellbeing.

This weekly class is intended to help research students in the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences to develop their skills in reading German documents they need to deal with in their research. Each session will be divided into two parts: The first part will consist of grammar, tasks to develop insight into the reading process, help with dealing with complex sentence structures, academic conventions, abbreviations, etc. The second part will be devoted to the translation of original German texts from different periods and covering a range of topics. Each week you will be asked to attempt a translation into English of a German passage. Students will be encouraged to bring along German texts from their own research to translate. Have you ever been concerned about a situation affecting someone else at work and wanted to help, but didn't because “Everyone else seems to think it’s ok” or “Nothing will change anyway”? Have you ever heard a racist/sexist/homophobic joke in the tea room and felt uncomfortable? Watched a colleague wince at being belittled or interrupted in a team meeting and wished you could help? Seen an inappropriate touch of a friend and felt bad for them? You're not alone, we are all observers and bystanders simply by being at work. Come along to this short session to find out why this happens and what it means to be an active bystander. This includes simple changes and actions we can learn to use to support others around us and, over time, create a respectful and inclusive environment for all of us to live and work in. |

The Advanced Conversation Hours are a great way to practice the spoken English of academic discussion and debate. They are suitable for learners comfortable in spoken interaction at level c1 and above. The University of Cambridge’s position on plagiarism will be presented before moving on to a discussion around good referencing techniques, using the Harvard referencing style as an example. Participants will see a live demonstration of the reference management tool Zotero before taking part in a quiz to consolidate their knowledge. |

Team work and Communication: Balancing team role strengths and managing difficult conversations Workshop learning objectives: better understand your strengths and allowable weaknesses when working in a team using Belbin Team Roles theory; improve communication of your team role strengths; learn how to manage differences when working in a team; and practice the Influencing without Authority model as a way of managing difficult conversations. This workshop will improve your self-awareness and help you work better with others. We will use Belbin Team Roles to explore your current behaviours when working in a team, map strengths with your colleagues to explore how to best work together. We will then use the Influencing without Authority as an approach to managing difficult conversations or when friction is likely. This is a practical, active workshop. Learners will have a chance to practice talking about a variety of topics so whether you are learning from a resource or a class, you could use it as a chance to practice talking about a topic you have learned or alternatively, you could take it as an opportunity to branch out and experiment with discussing a new idea or issue that interests you.
