Postdoc Academy Masterclass: Effective Collaborations
New

Tue 4 Jun 2024

Description

Collaboration is highly valued in research today and is responsible for many of the most important modern advances in knowledge and understanding.

This webinar aims to help you plan and maintain your research collaboration successfully, so both you and your collaborators can enjoy and benefit from the journey.

In this 2-hour online masterclass, we’ll consider:

  • the advantages and barriers to a collaborative approach
  • what drives successful collaborations
  • the ‘rules’ and process of planning, establishing, managing and working together
  • partnerships outside of academia
  • what you can do if things aren’t working out.

This session will require your input so you should have your camera and microphone on and come prepared to be an active participant.

Please note: it is important that when you book this course, on the booking confirmation page, select Add to Calendar to start importing the appointment to your calendar.

Target audience

Prerequisites

Pre-Thinking Tasks

To help you to get the most from this focused webinar, there are three questions to think about beforehand. You don’t need to send anything in advance but come ready to share.

1.What do you perceive to be the barriers to collaborative working and interdisciplinarity? What can you do to help overcome these?

2. What do you think are the rules of collaborating successfully? If you haven’t been in collaborations before, ask someone who has for their thoughts. Come with five or six discrete ideas. These should be things that you can ‘do’ as opposed to ‘be’ (e.g., ‘be organised’ is true, but too vague to be helpful).

3. Think about what sort of behaviours you would want to see in a collaborator - beyond their research or professional expertise. What values would you want them to show? How will you know you can trust them? What will make them a good fit for you and your work?
