Unconscious Bias happens automatically, without conscious control, when our brains make quick judgements or assessments about people and situations. Combatting unconscious bias isn’t about blame. It’s about accountability.

This session will provide an introduction to implicit or unconscious bias and will help you start to understand how our biases influence the decisions we make.

  • An interactive workshop for those who would like to increase their understanding of trans people and transphobia.
  • The aim of the session is not only to enhance participants' confidence in speaking about trans issues but also to provide them with tools to reflect on their role in the transmission of transphobia, and to build their capacity to challenge transphobia.

UIS Staff: Wellbeing - Modelling Minds, Optimising Mental Functioning, Understanding Stress and Burnout new POSTPONED 12:30 - 13:30 University Information Services, Roger Needham Building, Norwich Auditorium

Time to Talk Day 2020 is an opportunity for all of us to raise awareness of mental health issues and advocate against social stigma.

As part of the UIS Wellbeing initiative we are very pleased to invite Hisham Ziauddeen a Clinical Senior Research Associate in the Department of Psychiatry and the University’s Wellbeing and Disability Champion to deliver a talk on Optimising Brain Functioning. He is a consultant psychiatrist working in early intervention in psychosis.

He will talk about how we model other minds and how we manage the cost of mental functioning. He will particularly discuss the impact of work and other stress and the phenomenon of burnout. These are complex problems that don’t have simple solutions but there are a range of things that may help and these will be discussed along the way.

UIS Business Briefing: Next steps for Raven [Places] 14:00 - 16:00 University Information Services, Roger Needham Building, Norwich Auditorium

A round-table-style Business Briefing to talk about the roadmap for the Raven authentication service and related IAM plans, including:

  • transition of the current Raven service (i.e. WebAuth) into Raven as the umbrella brand for the next generation University authentication service that now includes SAML2 (Shibboleth), OAuth2 and, in future, ADFS.
  • plans for retiring the current Raven WebAuth Service (which will become known as the "Raven Legacy Service")
  • an update on the implementation plan for introducing two-step verification and the rationale behind selecting the chosen solution.

An informal guidance session for anyone thinking about joining the IT Community and UIS Mentoring Scheme. Professional Development Manager, Rinku Raina will give a brief overview about what you can expect from joining the scheme. You'll have the chance to ask informal questions and hear from previous members of the scheme.
