PIs: Working Effectively with your Postdoc – Webinar and Q&A New
This session extends the PI working effectively with your postdoc webinar; it is a pre-requisite to have attended or to watch the webinar in full before attending. In conversation with contributor Dr Ewan St John Smith, this interactive session considers some of the extended questions that came up that we did not have time to cover. These include typical questions below.
- What is the best way to handle a situation where a postdoc has very different expectations of the post even after many one-to-one discussions?
- I struggle to give enough direction that they stay close to the core work. Do you have recommendations for how to help guide people towards the work that's relevant and important to you and the grant?
- How might you handle a situation where one lab member has low enthusiasm/drive and that seems to affect others?
- Most groups have students, early postdocs and experienced postdocs. What are the main differences in working with them?
- How often should I interact with a member of staff during a period of extended leave, and should I support interaction with the group during leave?
- New or existing University academics and researchers with management responsibility for one or more postdocs
- Further details regarding PPD's eligibility criteria
The aims of the webinar plus the Q&A session are:
- To consider how to create a positive and productive working environment that optimises your own wellbeing and that of those in your team
- To understand your responsibilities, and that of your postdoc, whilst working together to achieve the research objectives
- To identify key skills and knowledge to support this area of your role
- To know where to find further support and guidance
This will be delivered as a live session, with input and conversation between the presenters and participants. The session will not be recorded.
