The aim of this talk is to introduce UIS plans to manage the University-wide Active Directory - Blue with Active Directory Management System (ADMS) which would receive all updates to the AD and provide more detailed access controls than is possible with the native Active Directory tools.

Initially there will be a talk and demonstration then there will be an opportunity to try out any techniques you have learned about. To this end, if you are interested in looking at analytics for your own site and you haven't yet obtained a code and installed it on your pages, you will need to do that before the course. If you are interested in interpreting data that is already being collected you won't have to worry about that. Bear in mind that there is a lag in data collection of 24 hours.

The course aims to give an introductory overview of High Performance Computing (HPC) in general, and of the facilities of the High Performance Computing Service (HPCS) in particular.

This is a practical-based course for people new to writing Web pages. Only the basics of HTML (hypertext mark-up language) will be covered, and is suitable for those who have to edit a content management system (CMS) to update web pages. The course teaches how to write HTML from scratch using a basic Text Editor and focuses on content and structure as opposed to style. By the end of the course you will have created three personal linked web pages and had the opportunity to publish these using DS-Web.

The University needs to maintain records about the personal data we hold, how we use it, and how we keep it secure to meet the obligations of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which comes into force on 25 May this year. The Information Asset Register (IAR) is the University’s chosen method of meeting this obligation.

At this event, James Knapton and Sibel Allinson will provide a live demonstration on how to use the IAR and host a Q&A session.

  • University Information Services (UIS) is facilitating a mentoring scheme across UIS and the IT Community, providing career development support for individuals and organisations. This workshop is intended for mentors who have enrolled in the scheme. The session will cover advice and helpful methods on how to be a confident and effective mentor and a chance to share ideas with other mentors enrolled in the scheme.

University Information Services (UIS) facilitate a mentoring scheme across UIS and the IT Community, providing career development support for individuals and organisations. This session is for mentees to understand how to approach your mentor, plan your objectives and general guidelines to gain the most helpful and relevant advice from your mentor. You'll also have the opportunity to meet with other mentees enrolled on the scheme.

An informal guidance session for members of the IT Community and UIS Mentoring Scheme. The session will provide the opportunity to meet with other mentees enrolled on the scheme. You’ll be able to talk openly as a group and share any successes or challenges while being a mentee.
