Covid-19 Pandemic - Physics Safety Briefing

This briefing provides a summary of the precautions and safe working protocol related to working at the Department during the Covid-19 Pandemic 2020. Anyone with easy access to IT resources and a quiet space, is required to do this briefing online.

Note June-September 2020 -New staff, students, visitors and equipment users requiring card access will still need to complete the usual Departmental Safety Induction. If you fall into this category, contact the Departmental Safety Officer.

Target audience

Specific support staff at the Department of Physics, in particular personnel who will are responsible for ensuring the Department buildings are sanitised and ready for use. Remaining staff and students will be doing this session online.

By the end of this briefing, participants should be able to:

  • Summarise the Department and University strategy on working during the Covid-19 Pandemic
  • Describe what has been done in the department to minimise contact / use of the premises while allowing practical work
  • Explain what to do in a fire or first aid emergency
  • Take the correct action if they are ill
  • Describe how to avoid transmission of the virus
  • Contact the relevant persons to get more help or report problems
  • Sanitise their hands correctly with gel sanitiser and 70% ethanol spray
  • Sanitise surfaces with 70% ethanol spray

This briefing aims to provide information on:

  • The department measures to control risks from SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19 (aka Coronavirus)
  • What you need to do to protect yourself and others at work
  • Practice using hand gel and ethanol spray correctly

There will be a short written test once the participant has completed the briefing. Passing the test is required for obtaining access to the Department. Please bring a pen to avoid cross contamination!

Training Safety During Pandemic

To maintain a distance of 2m or more, this session will take place in a large auditorium and participants will be required to sit at designated locations.
