Description

The University Staff Counselling Service is offering this workshop for all staff, to be led by Rosemary Parkinson By attending this workshop you will learn

  • why you feel anxious and stressed and what is happening in your body
  • what you can do about anxiety in the short-term
  • how to spot medium and longer term symptoms of stress in yourself and others
  • how to take responsibility for yourself when stressed
  • sources of support in the university and outside

The session will be for a one hour duration with 15 minutes at the end for Q&A.

Objectives
  • Learn to understand that stress and anxiety are normal bodily reactions and that these feelings have a purpose. Learn how we can cope with stress and anxiety more effectively through greater self-care.
  • Short term stress: identification of bodily reactions to stress and anxiety in difficult situations, such as a tight deadline or communicating with a demanding colleague, and techniques for managing them.
  • Medium to longer term stressful situation: how to separate the benefits of stress, such as motivation, excitement and feelings of achievement, from the negative consequences of it. Learn how to re-programme stress as normal and see it as courage.
  • Being courageous is demanding on the individual so learn how to stop and self-reflect, and replenish your needs, as well as checking in on your colleagues.
  • Signposting support for yourself and colleagues.

Above all you will come away with a new way of thinking about stress.
