Description

The Programme offers general language tuition with a focus on communicative competence.

At elementary1 level, the focus is on every day and real-time, oral/aural communication. Each course features a functional-notional syllabus and grammar points are analysed in context.

The Course introduces students to the following functions and notions:

  • Hiring a boat/bicycle/car
  • Talking about sports
  • Talking about the past
  • Talking about regular activities
  • Enquiring at the tourist office
  • Shopping for food, clothes and gifts
  • Asking for directions
  • Using public transport
  • Visiting the doctor / chemist
Objectives

By the end of the Course students will be able to:

  • Listening/Speaking: Express simple opinions or requirements in a familiar context.
  • Reading: Read fairly confidently the Hiragana and Katakana characters. Understand straightforward information within a known area, such as on products and signs and simple textbooks or reports on familiar matters using Japanese characters.
  • Writing: Complete forms and write short simple letters or postcards related to personal information.
Aims

At the Elementary 1 Level the main aims are:

  • To further develop and refine the understanding and an appreciation of the salient linguistic features of the Japanese language;
  • To establish the learner as a confident language user in a wider range of every-day predictable situations as well as in situations related to study and work;
  • To further introduce students to the complex historical and cultural background of Japan within the context of language teaching.

Charging
  • Students Fees: £285 to be paid online. Please select ‘Concessionary’ under the course fee when you make your booking.
  • Staff Fees: £320 to be paid online. Please select ‘All charged’ under the course fee when you make your booking.

  • Payment is required within 24 hours of your booking to secure your place.
  • Refunds available after the first lesson only.
  • Payment for the courses is made on the Online Store (CULP General Purpose courses), (Raven log in).
