Description

The Programme offers general language tuition with a focus on communicative competence.

At a basic level, the focus is on every day and real-time, oral/aural communication. Each course features a functional-notional syllabus and grammar points are analysed in context.

For absolute beginners (ab initio learners) or for those with very little knowledge of the language

The course introduces students to the following functions and notions:

  • To be able to say hello, to present oneself
  • To be able to say which language(s) one speaks
  • What one does for work
  • To be able to talk about one's family
  • To be able to say where one lives
  • To talk about preferences, interests, sport, hobbies, weekend activities
  • To be able to order a drink/snack.
  • To be able to ask directions
  • To be able to make an appointment over the phone
  • To speak of one's plans for the future
Objectives

By the end of the course students will be able to:

  • To provide a basic knowledge of German language and culture.
  • To understand and to be able to use grammatical structures and vocabulary.
  • To strengthen a positive and confident attitude towards language learning
  • To be able to understand and exchange general information in the target language on a range of everyday issues at a basic level.
Aims
  • To develop a basic understanding and an appreciation of the salient linguistic features;
  • To establish the learner as a fairly confident language user in a range of every-day predictable situations;
  • To introduce students to the cultural background of Germany (and Austria) within the context of language teaching.

Charging
  • Students Fees: £285 to be paid online. Please select ‘Concessionary’ under the course fee when you make your booking.
  • Staff Fees: £320 to be paid online. Please select ‘All charged’ under the course fee when you make your booking.

  • Payment is required within 24 hours of your booking to secure your place.
  • Refunds available after the first lesson only.
  • Payment for the courses is made on the Online Store (CULP General Purpose courses), (Raven log in).
