09:00	Fire Warden and Use of Fire Extinguishers Training (1 of 2) Finished 09:00 - 10:30 Greenwich House, Jaffna Room Fire Warden training (0900-1030) will give clear instruction of the roles of designated fire wardens and assist fire safety managers to comply with current fire safety legislation. Use of Fire Extinguisher training (1045-1145) provides hands on experience in the correct use of portable fire extinguishers.
	Systemslink training 3 September Finished 09:00 - 12:30 Greenwich House, Granada Room Systemslink is a database used to record utility use in departmental buildings, this system is not available for buildings operated by the NHS. Departments can use Systemslink to track energy savings. This training will provide an overview of the system and an introduction on how to use it.
09:15	Cataloguing Training : Using Cataloguing Rules RDA and AACR2 Finished 09:15 - 16:00 Faculty of Divinity, Room 3 Learn cataloguing in a day! – an intensive course for beginners. We will cover RDA and AACR2 cataloguing rules including use of the RDA Toolkit online, we will do some practical cataloguing and look at some of the theory which underpins the cataloguing rules. 	Analysis of bulk RNA-seq data (2 of 3) Finished 09:30 - 17:30 Bioinformatics Training Room, Craik-Marshall Building The aim of this course is to familiarize the participants with the primary analysis of RNA-seq data. This course starts with a brief introduction to RNA-seq and discusses quality control issues. Next, we will present the alignment step, quantification of expression and differential expression analysis. For downstream analysis we will focus on tools available through the Bioconductor project for manipulating and analysing bulk RNA-seq. The training room is located on the first floor and there is currently no wheelchair or level access available to this level. 09:55	Physics Health & Safety: Induction Part 1 Briefing Finished 09:55 - 11:15 Department of Physics, 213 Bragg Commitee Room This induction briefing is mandatory for all new or temporary staff, new students, and visitors (from other departments or elsewhere) to the Cavendish Laboratory who are staying for more than one week, or are visiting regularly. It begins with a short HR induction. You will also need to book and attend Part 2 Induction if you do practical work - it follows 10 minutes after this session.
10:00	Medicine: Introduction to Literature Searching (for University) Finished 10:00 - 12:00 Clinical School, Medical Library, Library Training Room A course specifically for University of Cambridge staff and students. Attendees will learn how to search medical/healthcare databases accessed with a Raven login (such as Medline and Embase) effectively and efficiently, to learn how to save searches and references, and to create and maintain a bibliography. This course is delivered at an introductory/refresher level, and assumes you have had no prior training in how to search databases. All attendees are required to have a Raven login. NHS staff wanting to learn similar material should book onto our 'Getting the Best Results - Improving Your Database Searching' course instead.

11:35	Physics Health & Safety: Induction Part 2 - Risk Assessment Briefing Finished 11:35 - 12:45 Department of Physics, 213 Bragg Commitee Room This risk assessment briefing follows the basic departmental induction and is mandatory for all new staff, students or visitors who will be doing one or more of the following: running experiments providing technical support carrying out workshop or maintenance work managing other people's work running events You may only attend this session if you have done Part 1 (see "prerequisites" below).
14:00	Fire Safety Awareness and Use of Fire Extinguishers Training (1 of 2) Finished 14:00 - 15:00 Greenwich House, Jaffna Room The Fire Safety Awareness course (1400-1500) will raise attendees' awareness of fire safety and assist fire safety managers to comply with current fire safety legislation. Use of Fire Extinguishers training (1515-1615) provides hands on experience in the correct use of portable fire extinguishers. University staff working in embedded accommodation at Addenbrooke's Hospital should attend the NHS' fire training for its tenants. This will cover general fire safety awareness specific to the main hospital. (See related courses below for further details.)

	Librarians in Training: Helping Your Readers Get the Most Out of iDiscover Finished 10:00 - 11:00 Cambridge University Library, IT Training Room Led by members of the UL Reference team, this course will explore the varied reasons why readers struggle to find items they need on iDiscover. There will be a chance for you to solve some of the enquiries which are handled by Reference Staff, brush up your own searching skills and discover some lesser known functions of iDiscover. The UL Reference team will be answering participant questions submitted prior to the course. Information about the UL’s iDiscover training for readers will also be available.

14:00	Medicine: Getting the best results - improving your database searching (for NHS staff only) Finished 14:00 - 16:00 Clinical School, Medical Library, Library Training Room A course specifically for NHS staff. Attendees will learn how to search databases accessed with an Athens login (such as Medline, Embase and Cinahl) effectively and efficiently, to learn how to save searches and references, and to create and maintain a bibliography. All attendees are required to have an NHS Athens login. University of Cambridge staff and students wanting to learn similar material should book onto the Introduction to Literature Searching (for University) course instead.

09:30	Cambridge University Libraries Staff : HR for Managers Finished 09:30 - 16:30 Cambridge University Library, IT Training Room One day workshop for CUL Managers L&D will contact workshop attendees approximately 3 months after the training with some basic questions to see how effective found the training and how training learnt from has been applied into work practice.
	An Introduction to Solving Biological Problems with Python (1 of 2) Finished 09:30 - 17:30 Bioinformatics Training Room, Craik-Marshall Building This course provides a practical introduction to the writing of Python programs for the complete novice. Participants are lead through the core aspects of Python illustrated by a series of example programs. Upon completion of the course, attentive participants will be able to write simple Python programs and customize more complex code to fit their needs. Course materials are available here. Please note that the content of this course has recently been updated. This course now mostly focuses on core concepts including Python syntax, data structures and reading/writing files. Concepts and strategies for working more effectively with Python are now the focus of a new 2-days course, Data Science in Python. The training room is located on the first floor and there is currently no wheelchair or level access available to this level. 12:00	An Introduction to Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Assessment Finished 12:00 - 13:30 Greenwich House, Minsk Room This training is intended for staff and post graduate students who regularly use DSE to help prevent or reduce the risk of possible health problems arising from computer use. The training is also aimed at those responsible within departments for assisting with the DSE risk assessment process. The course will provide an understanding of the DSE Regulations 1992 (as amended 2002) and discuss employer's and employee's duties regarding the assessment of DSE workstations. There will be theory and a practical demonstration. The training will allow time to discuss some of the common health problems and concerns that may be associated with poor workstation set-up with examples of possible solutions.
12:30	Knowing Your Audience, Telling Stories and Why This Matters Finished 12:30 - 14:00 Postdoc Centre @ Biomedical Campus, Newman Library People love stories. They entertain, they help us to remember. This short interactive session is aimed at researchers looking to improve the effectiveness of their communication. It will introduce the importance of working out who your audience is and what they want to know. It will also explore how storytelling is as relevant to research communication as it is to fairy tales. We all have to communicate our research and ideas, why not do it through stories? The session will be delivered by the Academic Director for STEM, Institute of Continuing Education. 14:00	Medicine: The "Big Four" Databases For Your Literature Search (for students and researchers at the University of Cambridge) Finished 14:00 - 16:00 Clinical School, Medical Library, Library Training Room One session - four medicine and life science databases - widest coverage for your literature search. PubMed is great, but it doesn't cover all the journals relevant to life sciences and medicine. Embase, Web of Science and Scopus can also be relevant and each covers unique material. Come to this hands-on session to learn how to get the best from each of these "4 tops". This session is aimed at University of Cambridge staff or students who have already had prior training in database searching.
