New to online collaboration? This course aims to take the mystery out of managing your files online, syncing these to your computer and introduces a few useful functions that you may not have discovered.

This is an online instructor-led course to help you get to grips with word processing basics using Microsoft Word. It will be taught in a small group and no previous knowledge is assumed. Following on, we offer further courses that build on these fundamentals to extend your skills including Skills for Document Layout.

For those who prefer to self-study there is an online course from LinkedIn Learning, the course can be accessed here for Mac and for Windows users. Sign in with your @cam.ac.uk email and Raven password.

This course is mainly aimed at students writing their thesis but is also suitable for staff who need to write a long document. It is designed to give an insight and hands on practice into the more advanced features of Microsoft Word that are relevant to producing substantial reports.

Need to get up to speed with Teams? Then join us in this friendly, slow-paced, introductory session to learn how to get up and running. This is Part 1 of 4 courses that provide you the opportunity to get a hands on and in-depth insight into Teams. If you prefer a quick overview of Teams then consider joining the Fast Track course instead. You will:

  • Understand Teams, Channels and an overview of what is possible in the application
  • Chat in a group or one-to-one

Join us for this 1.5 hour workshop to learn how to get hands on creating and managing breakout rooms in your Teams meetings. Please note that to participate you must have Teams installed on your computer and ideally have access to the calendar to create a Teams Meeting ('Meet now' can be used otherwise).

Are you new to teaching online? It is natural to feel apprehensive of this mode of delivery, virtual training has an additional skill set to those in a classroom based situation, and though your existing training skills remain essential, there is another layer of technical expertise to master.

This online virtual workshop will help build your confidence delivering training sessions and give you an opportunity to practice and to receive feedback from other trainers. The emphasis of the course is not about the method and practice of teaching as an academic subject or theoretical concept, this is a hands-on workshop where you can practice in a safe environment.

Before the workshop session, you must create an activity or convert one of your existing courses to an online version, and be prepared to present a 15-20 minute session. You will need to demonstrate that you have thought through and manged the pre-course bookings, communications and activities as well as competence using an online delivery tool.

The workshop will be friendly and supportive with a maximum of three participants. You must have Teams installed on your computer to participate.

  • Session 1 is optional for those who are unfamiliar with the Teams application to receive basic hands on training.
  • Session 2 is guidance concerning the management of a successful online training event.
  • Session 3 is the peer-reviewed workshop, you will both teach a session and review the other instructors.

Though this is an informal training session you may like to review the competences required to achieve certification by CompTIA

If you book:

  • You should have Teams installed on your local computer, but you could deliver your course using a different tool such as Zoom, but no instruction using different tools is given.
  • You will need a webcam and a mic.

Want an insight into Teams? Then join me in this friendly, fast-paced, session to learn how to get up and running. This course would suit people that are comfortable using computers and who would be confident referring to the course materials after the session to consolidate the detail.
