Description

Although not the only aspect of open research, open access to research outputs is perhaps the one most people will be familiar with. This constantly changing landscape can be confusing but It doesn't have to be with our handy introduction to all things OA.

This self-paced, interactive module allows learners to think about the wider issues around open access to information, the benefits it can have for both researchers and the wider world and what researchers need to do to comply with funder mandates.

  • Benefits of open access.
  • The impact of open access on the REF and PhD theses.
  • Open access at Cambridge.
  • Finding and using open access materials.
Objectives

At the end of the module, learners will be able to :

  • Define what open access is.
  • Discuss the benefit of open publication to both researchers and the general public.
  • Critique these benefits.
  • Define the different open models.
  • Examine the debates around different publishing models.
