This training will provide delegates with a basic knowledge of asbestos awareness, the risks and the legal requirements under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.

Asbestos awareness training is mandatory for all University personnel meeting the prerequisites of the Asbestos Regulations and ACoPs (Accepted Codes of Practice). Training is typically required for personnel who could inadvertently disturb asbestos during the course of their work/activities or instruct someone to do so, eg personnel who work on buildings.

This course is aimed at those who want to improve their skills when laying out Word documents. You will learn key topics that will enhance your work with the opportunity for hands on practice on the essential features of Microsoft Word relevant to producing well laid out reports.

Excel 365: Pivot Tables (Live Online using MS Teams) Finished 09:30 - 12:00 UIS Online Microsoft Teams 3

This course offers an introduction to the power and time-saving value of PivotTables and will appeal to anyone who analyses data in Excel, come and explore their magic. People who get Pivot Table under their belt cannot imagine the usage of Excel without them. If pivot tables and their capacity are a mystery to you, this course is for you.

A course to take you through conference poster design, with tips and resources to help with the content and presentation in order to ensure you communicate your research effectively. The course will cover where to source good quality, free graphics, how to include references in your poster, and advice about how best to present it at a conference. The session will NOT involve hands-on creation of a poster.

Content Community:Using Google Search Console new Finished 13:00 - 14:00 UIS Online Courses - instructor-led

Most websites get the majority of their traffic from search engines. Search engine optimisation (SEO) is one key step to improving your content. This is where you consider how easy it is for users to find your website, what they are looking for when they do and try to make it easier for them.

During this event, we will introduce you to Google Search Console and how to gain access to it. We will look at what Google knows about your website, and what people are looking for on Google Search when they find your website. Finally, we’ll explore how to use that data when optimising a page on your website.

This content community event will also cover:

  • how to access Google Search Console (and get verified)
  • Google Search data you can see and what it means
  • using Google Search Console to help you with SEO

The session is for everyone interested in using Google Search Console effectively.

The recent Rights Retention pilot has helped us learn a great deal about issues and practicalities of rights retention and the pilot continues to deliver lessons through ongoing review. In November 2022, the Research Policy Committee considered the findings from the pilot so far and endorsed the development of a self-archiving policy for researchers. We would like to invite you to attend a briefing session to gather your feedback.

Do you know when it is appropriate to negotiate, and how to do this effectively? Would you like to improve your skills in communicating with influence?

This interactive session will introduce you to key principles of influencing and negotiation that can be applied in workplace situations.

In this 90-minute session, you will:

  • explore key principles of negotiation
  • identify the difference between asking and negotiating
  • gain practical techniques for communicating with influence
  • identify the appropriate negotiating style for your context.

You will have the opportunity to practice some of these skills in the session. To make the most of this session, we recommend that you come prepared to participate in discussions and activities.

Medicine: Getting the best results - improving your database searching (for NHS staff only) new Finished 09:00 - 11:00 Clinical School, Medical Library, Library Training Room

A course specifically for NHS staff. Attendees will learn how to search databases accessed with an Athens login (such as Medline, Embase and Cinahl) effectively and efficiently, to learn how to save searches and references, and to create and maintain a bibliography.

All attendees are required to have an NHS Athens login. University of Cambridge staff and students wanting to learn similar material should book onto the Introduction to Literature Searching (for University) course instead.
