Users of radioactive substances who are new to the University should also attend. This course also acts as a refresher for experienced users and for users from other institutions or countries. There will be time for discussion and questions at the end of the session, and a self-assessment exercise of attendees’ core knowledge will be carried out.

Virtual - Transport and Movement of Radioactive Materials Finished 10:00 - 12:00 N/A - MS Teams

This short course is designed to provide basic information to consignors, stores personnel, and departmental drivers on the nature of radioactivity, its effects on people and how we protect ourselves from 'radiation'. You do not need any previous knowledge of the nature or effects of radioactivity. We also cover in detail the rules and regulations concerning transport and movement of radioactive substances.

Who should attend? Departmental drivers from departments that consign radioactive materials or waste and stores managers and radiation protection supervisors who are responsible for consigning or transporting radioactive materials between departments or on the public roads.

Virtual - Risk Assessment of Genetically Modified Organisms Finished 14:00 - 16:30 N/A - MS Teams

This training will be run as a webinar through Office Teams.

A prior risk assessment of all work with genetically modified organisms, from bacteria to animals, is a requirement by law. The course cover the legal background and your duties, provide guidance on the Hazard Groups and containment levels, explain the notification system and guide you through an example GM risk assessment. At least a basic understanding of biology and genetic techniques is assumed, which will allow you to get the full benefit of this course.
