Physics Health and Safety - Maxwell Centre Induction BeginnersNew
This induction is required for anyone planning to work unsupervised at the Maxwell Centre, Department of Physics.
It has two parts:
- Part 1 is for people working anywhere in the building
- Part 2 is only for those working at the Maxwell laboratories
People with permission to work at Maxwell offices or use the laboratories or specific equipment

By the end of the session, users will be able to describe:
Part 1
- Introduction to Maxwell Centre facilities
- How to safely evacuate in an emergency
- Requirements for work out of normal hours
- How to obtain first aid; location of defibrillator
- How to report building faults or maintenance issues
Part 2
- Hazards of working in the labs and how to manage risks
These session aim to ensure authorised users have enough information to use the Maxwell Centre safely.
Building walk-round and short presentation
- Session 1: Approximately 25 minutes
- Session 2: Approximately 30 minutes
Usually run twice a month, to coincide with the Department of Physics Induction Part 1
People working in laboratories will also need to attend Department of Physics Part 2 Induction
