We offer expert, impartial advice relating all things process improvement and want to support our colleagues on their own continuous improvement journeys. Please note, these sessions are informal, 1-2-1 meetings where colleagues can ask for advice and guidance from the team. These are not workshops or taught sessions. The team will be available 9-10 and 4-5 every Tuesday and Friday - each hour can be split into two sessions of 30 minutes depending on demand. |

The Introduction to Languages and Cultures courses feature some less taught languages and are designed to offer a sneak preview into the world of these important civilisations. While learning the basics of the language, you will be able to view and appreciate the ancient as well as the modern character of the lands and peoples. These courses will not be formally assessed and students who attend regularly (12/15 sessions) will receive a Certificate of Attendance. This course provides a practical introduction to the writing of Python programs for the complete novice. Participants are lead through the core concepts of Python including Python syntax, data structures and reading/writing files. These are illustrated by a series of example programs. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to write simple Python programs.

Dangerous Goods by Air (IATA) Course

This is a CAA approved 3-day training course and open book examination, covering the requirements of the IATA Dangerous Goods by Air Regulations. Someone possessing this qualification will be an asset to their department as carriers ask for more assurances about the packaging and labelling of cargoes.
There will be a 0930 start on the first day but subsequent start, finish and break times will be a matter of negotiation with the trainer. The next full IATA course is due to be organised centrally in 2025. |

Do you have a deadline coming up or a piece of writing that’s long overdue? Or maybe some data analysis that keeps slipping to the bottom of your to-do list? Our online retreats give you time, peace, and space to think and write. Each session will provide a friendly and constructive environment in which to meet like-minded peers, discuss challenges, and work in a focused way using the Pomodoro technique. These virtual retreats are being hosted collaboratively across several institutions to encourage researchers across career stages and institutions to come together in a sustainable writing environment. The retreats will take place several times per month throughout the academic year and you can attend as many as you like (within booking limits for each session). The Squiggly Careers - Podcast Group

You've heard of a book group, but how about one for podcasts? In these sessions we will focus on a different episode from the wonderful Squiggly Careers Amazing If podcasts, which includes over 300 episodes on career based topics ranging from coaching and confidence, to strength and values. Before each session you will be sent a link to a podcast episode to listen to and reflect upon. During the session you will be led through a selection of tasks/exercises recommended in the episode Pod Sheet. You will have the opportunity to work on these individually and then reflect back as a group. Session 7: How to manage your monkeys In this episode podcast hosts share ways in which you can manage your monkeys, whether or not they are being given to you by other people or you’re creating them for yourself. They also share their own personal insights and issues with monkey management. A ‘monkey’ is a job to be done and very often we’re dealing with an overwhelming amount of them. |

This training is intended for staff and post graduate students who regularly use DSE to help prevent or reduce the risk of possible health problems arising from computer use. The training is also aimed at those responsible within departments for assisting with the DSE risk assessment process. The course will provide an understanding of the DSE Regulations 1992 (as amended 2002) and discuss employer's and employee's duties regarding the assessment of DSE workstations. There will be theory and a practical demonstration. The training will allow time to discuss some of the common health problems and concerns that may be associated with poor workstation set-up with examples of possible solutions. |
