We offer expert, impartial advice relating all things process improvement and want to support our colleagues on their own continuous improvement journeys. Please note, these sessions are informal, 1-2-1 meetings where colleagues can ask for advice and guidance from the Simplifying our Processes team. These are not workshops or taught sessions. The Simplifying our Processes team will be available 9-10 and 4-5 every Tuesday and Friday - each hour can be split into two sessions of 30 minutes depending on demand. |

The Bioinformatics Team are presently teaching this course live online, with tutors available to help you throughout if have any questions. We continue to monitor advice from the UK government and the University of Cambridge on resuming in-person teaching in our training room. This award winning virtually delivered course is intended to provide a strong foundation in practical statistics and data analysis using the R software environment. The underlying philosophy of the course is to treat statistics as a practical skill rather than as a theoretical subject and as such the course focuses on methods for addressing real-life issues in the biological sciences. There are three core goals for this course:
R is an open source programming language so all of the software we will use in the course is free. In this course, we explore classical statistical analysis techniques starting with simple hypothesis testing and building up to linear models and power analyses. The focus of the course is on practical implementation of these techniques and developing robust statistical analysis skills rather than on the underlying statistical theory. After the course you should feel confident to be able to select and implement common statistical techniques using R and moreover know when, and when not, to apply these techniques. Please note that if you are not eligible for a University of Cambridge Raven account you will need to book or register your interest by linking here. |

This IOSH approved 2 day training course ‘Work Equipment and Machinery Safety’ has been devised for workshop managers/technicians and risk assessors and accompanies the current workshop audit programme. This course will use practical sessions within a workshop and group exercises. There is one free place per department on the 'Work Equipment and Machinery Safety' training. Any other places will have to be paid for by your department. Please note any cancellations will need to be paid for. This class is intended to help research students in the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences to develop their skills in reading German documents they need to deal with in their research. Each session will be divided into two parts: The first part will consist of grammar, tasks to develop insight into the reading process, help with dealing with complex sentence structures, academic conventions, abbreviations, etc. The second part will be devoted to the translation of original German texts from different periods and covering a range of topics. Each week you will be asked to attempt a translation into English of a German passage. Students will be encouraged to bring along German texts from their own research to translate. These are informal conversation practice sessions where learners take it in turns to choose a topic for the session and prepare some relevant questions. Whether you are learning from a resource or a class, you could use it as a chance to repeat your practice of a topic you have learned, such as an everyday conversation about where you are all from. Alternatively, you could take it as an opportunity to branch out and experiment with discussing a new idea or issue that interests you. A native speaker facilitator is there to provide support in sustaining conversation and to give you feedback on your language. These sessions will allow you to practise spoken Arabic while finding topics written in Modern Standard Arabic. |

Have you ever wondered what training GPs receive about the menopause or how to discuss your menopause symptoms with your GP? We are delighted to welcome Dr Madeleine Lameris who will discussing her own medical training, how this has evolved and what current undergraduate medical students are now taught. Madeleine will also provide her top tips as a GP for accessing better menopause care. Dr Madeleine Lameris is the General Practice Education Group Year 5 and Curriculum lead in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care at the University, and also has a role at Cambridge Clinical School curating Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) content. Madeleine is in the process of completing her Masters in Medical Education, and she is a salaried GP at Buckden and Little Paxton Surgery. Madeleine has an interest in women’s health and menopause, and with her medical education hat on, is currently working with the team at the Newson Health Menopause Society to widen undergraduate access to menopause resources. |

Please note that the Conversation Hours will be delivered online This conversation hour offers learners with an independent conversational ability (B2/C1 level upwards) a chance to practice speaking Spanish with others in a relaxed and informal group led by a native-speaker facilitator. The content of the sessions is decided by the participants, with members taking turns to propose a topic and source materials (newspaper articles, web links, videos etc.) to use as a basis for discussion. The groups are ideal for those who wish to retain or improve upon the language skills they already have or for those studying for a language degree who would like another forum for interaction at advanced level. Participants from Spanish Advanced CULP and Advanced plus through film and literature are warmly invited to attend the Spanish Conversation Hour.
