Users of radioactive substances who are new to the University should also attend. This course also acts as a refresher for experienced users and for users from other institutions or countries. There will be time for discussion and questions at the end of the session, and a self-assessment exercise of attendees’ core knowledge will be carried out. This short course is designed to provide basic information to consignors, stores personnel, and departmental drivers on the nature of radioactivity, its effects on people and how we protect ourselves from 'radiation'. You do not need any previous knowledge of the nature or effects of radioactivity. We also cover in detail the rules and regulations concerning transport and movement of radioactive substances. Who should attend? Departmental drivers from departments that consign radioactive materials or waste and stores managers and radiation protection supervisors who are responsible for consigning or transporting radioactive materials between departments or on the public roads. |
