AAT Level 3 Diploma in Accounting 2019-20 Prerequisites£
The AAT Level 3, Diploma in Accounting, introduces to students to more complex financial processes and accounting tasks, the principles of VAT, professional ethics and develops their spreadsheet skills.
Departmental or College accounts staff who have completed Level 2, or who are already at a more intermediate level and are looking to develop their accounting skills.
Previous Knowledge
Prospective students must demonstrate that they have a sound understanding of the principles of double-entry book keeping gained from
- completion of the Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping/Certificate in Accounting;
- completion of AAT Foundation;
- completion of AAT Level 2; or
- previous accountancy experience, or qualifications.
Prospective students will be expected to demonstrate that this knowledge is up to date by completion of the AAT Skills Check .
Approval
In addition students' applications must be supported by their line managers and individuals must agree to the conditions of funding. Final acceptance on to the course will be subject to the Finance Training Manager's approval.

- Extending the Trial balance using accounting adjustments
- Accounting for fixed assets
Final Accounts Preparation
- Preparing accounts for sole traders
- Prepare final accounts for partnerships
- Incomplete records
Management Accounting: Costing
- Principles of costing
- Providing cost and revenue information
Indirect Tax
- Principles of VAT
- Preparing and completing VAT returns
Ethics for Accountants
- Ethics in accounting and finance
This is assessed throughout the course and in the synoptic assessment
Spreadsheets for Accounting
- Spreadsheet software
This will be input throughout the course and formally assessed in the synoptic assessment
The Diploma is split into six units:
- Advanced Bookkeeping
- Final Accounts Preparation
- Management Accounting: Costing
- Indirect Tax
- Ethics for Accountants (assessed within the synoptic assessment)
- Spreadsheets for Accounting (assessed within the synoptic assessment)
Students to complete and sit examinations sucessfully in four unit assessments plus a synoptic assessment within a year
