Interactive Induction: Beat the UL Challenge

Do you have what it takes to beat the UL? Assemble a team to take on the challenge!

A self-led Library induction with a difference! Solve a series of puzzles which will lead you all over the UL, while teaching yourself to navigate the building and our physical collections. Have fun, learn how to use the UL and you will receive a small prize on completion!

Teams of up to 6 players can participate - if you want to play with your friends you'll need to make sure you all sign up to the same session. All players must be registered users of the University Library.

Want to make it even more interesting? Let our staff know on the day if you would like to be timed for a chance to top our Beat the UL leaderboard! You can complete the challenge as many times as you like, but only your first attempt will be timed!

All UL users, particularly those new to the UL

• You must have a valid library card or university card to gain entry to the UL.
• At least one player will need to bring a mobile device.
• Don't forget to bring a pen or pencil!

By the end of the session you will be able to

• Find your way to key areas of the building
• Know where to go if you need help while using the UL
• Understand the unique classification system used in the UL and find specific books in the open bookstacks
• Search the iDiscover catalogue
• View your Library account
• Browse the supplementary catalogue (card catalogue)

Access to some areas of the library may be difficult for wheelchair users or those with reduced mobility. If you would like to take part, please email reference@lib.cam.ac.uk so that we can ensure that you are able to participate fully in the challenge.
