Cambridge Catalogue 101: Introduction to our online catalogues

An introduction to the various online catalogue interfaces used by the University, presented by members of staff at the main University Library.

The session will cover different ways of finding print and electronic resources held by the University of Cambridge. We will introduce some of the systems you will need to use, and try to explain some of the functions (and quirks!) of these systems.

There will be a presentation covering the various catalogues and web pages, followed by some hands on exercises to give you some useful practical experience.

All users of the main University Library and other libraries in the Cambridge system. This includes current students and staff at all levels, alumni of the University and external users of the University Library.

You'll need to have a University of Cambridge card or a current Reader's Ticket for the University Library.

• To understand and be able to use the various online catalogues at the University of Cambridge with confidence.
• To explore different approaches to looking for print and online resources in the University and learn which interfaces and routes are the most appropriate for which tasks.
• To gain a working knowledge of the catalogues and information gateways currently in use and their individual benefits.
• To learn how to avoid common pitfalls and potential issues that might be encountered.

Presentation and hands on exercises.

Places at the sessions are limited. This is the first year that we will have run the sessions so if you are unable to attend for any reason please let us know. If you feel that it would be worth us running the sessions earlier or later in the term, or on more occasions this feedback would also be very useful.
