Managing a Hybrid Team

Description

As staff transition from home working to a more flexible or hybrid model, many of the University’s managers will find themselves facing a range of novel leadership challenges.

With some team members working in the office and others remotely, maintaining inclusivity and a sense of shared identity, as well as equal access to information, relationships and opportunity, all become new priorities.

This intensive virtual course provides managers of hybrid teams at Cambridge University with a toolkit of practical techniques that will help them - and their teams - adapt and thrive in these fast-changing times.

Aims

To understand and develop skills in:

  • The key challenges faced by hybrid teams
  • Using action-centred leadership to intentionally manage the task, build the team and support the individual when managing a hybrid team
  • Harnessing the power of short-term goals to motivate your team and monitor productivity
  • Managing through trust, objectives and outcomes
  • Ensuring information parity across the team
  • Building and maintaining relationships and social capital
  • Ensuring inclusiveness and involvement
  • Avoiding your team splitting into a ‘core’ and a ‘fringe’
  • Sustaining the team’s morale, positivity and purpose
  • Developing a flexible leadership style
  • Holding effective 1:1s
  • Identifying tensions and supporting individuals who are struggling
  • Helping staff manage the pressure of ‘presenteeism’
About the presenter

Kate Jennings is a highly experienced leadership development consultant and coach. She has facilitated large-scale leadership development programmes for a wide range of organisations.

Kate’s background is in the food science industry, where for many years she led teams working with clients such as M&S, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose. Building on this experience she has spent 15 years working with executives and staff teams for some of the UK’s most well-known organisations. Kate works across private, public and voluntary sectors, with clients in the UK, Europe and USA.
