Academic Career Pathways (Teaching and Scholarship): preparing your case for promotion (Scheme A, AHSS and STEMM)
New

Wed 21 Jun 2023

Description

The Academic Career Pathway (Teaching & Scholarship) has been introduced to recognise the contribution of colleagues whose primary responsibilities are teaching-focussed. This workshop provides an opportunity to learn of the aims and procedures of the new promotions processes for Teaching & Scholarship staff, to reflect on how scholarship may be evidenced in applications for promotions and to consider how to develop a personal case for promotion under the appropriate Scheme.

This workshop is intended to complement personal support for career development and promotions provided in departments, faculties and University institutions. We hope that it will also help you to identify specific questions about career development and personal promotions for discussion with your mentor, line-manager or colleague(s).

Target audience

Members of staff employed on Academic Career Pathway: Teaching & Scholarship
Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS) and Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Medicine and Mathematics (STEMM) Grades 9 - 12

Note:

  • separate in-person workshops are offered for colleagues considering promotions under ‘Scheme A’, i.e. Grades 9-12, and for colleagues considering promotions under ‘Scheme B’, i.e. Grades 6-8.
Prerequisites

Before attending an in-person workshop please spend up to one hour to familiarise yourself with factual information about the promotions processes for Academic Career Pathways (Teaching & Scholarship) and to respond to a short questionnaire which will provide a briefing for workshop facilitators. All materials are held on Moodle: Academic Career Pathway (Teaching & Scholarship).

Please note: we will not discuss individual responses in detail during the workshop; you may choose to share your personal individual responses with your mentor or line-manager to help you to develop your case for promotion. You will be able to access information about the promotions process and the short questionnaire via a link which will be shared 7-10 days in advance with those registered for the workshop
