Mind the gap online seminar 1: how do you know if you have an awarding gap? Prerequisites
This online workshop is the first in a three-part series that has been designed to support staff in investigating, understanding and addressing the awarding gaps in their courses, Departments or Colleges.
Participants will be provided with guidance on accessing and interpreting the statistical data available on Tableau, which will help you identify which student groups are less likely to be awarded Firsts or Good Honours degrees than their peers. Structured activities will help individuals see the awarding gaps in their local institutional contexts across the last 5 years. Qualitative data gathered across the last two years will also be presented, with opportunities for Q&A.
Small group discussion will allow participants to compare findings and begin reflections on the reasons for these gaps across the University and within their own local context.
The activities in this workshop have been developed by Dr Laura Hall (Business Information Team). The workshop will be facilitated by staff from the Cambridge Centre for Teaching and Learning and Equality & Diversity. Please contact Dr Ruth Walker (CCTL) or Gina Warren (E&D) if you have any questions about the seminars or related resources on awarding gaps.
Please note that we are using the term ‘awarding gap’ instead of ‘attainment gap’ to indicate the shift in focus across the Higher Education sector in conversation from student deficit and to institutional responsibility.
