Description

Do you get nervous when teaching or lecturing? Do you get the results you want from your communications with others at work? Does presenting remotely feel like an additional obstacle to overcome?

This individually focused and completely confidential one-to-one coaching session for Cambridge staff with teaching responsibilities will help you refine your teaching and presentation skills, assist you to speak more confidently, and develop new approaches to your communication in a wide range of professional situations. As well as learning some strategies for to holding the attention of a room full of students or peers – or monitor full of viewers.

Constructive feedback will give you insight into your speaking style, how you come across to others, and how well your ideas are communicated. Coaching will focus on your individual requirements, ranging from practical points about elocution and vocal projection, to holding the attention of a room of students and structuring a compelling lecture or presentation.

Target audience

Cambridge staff with teaching responsibilities

  • Please note that PhD students are not eligible for this course. Please visit the Researcher Development for PhD one-to-one bookable sessions.
Prerequisites

At the beginning of your one-to-one session, you will be asked to give a short presentation (or excerpt thereof). If you are working on something specific which you would like to practise (e.g. a lecture, paper, talk). If you don’t have anything particular to present, then please come prepared to talk for 2-3 minutes about yourself and your work.

  • This appointment will be conducted online via Teams
  • The trainer will call you at the designated appointment time
  • Please ensure you are on time

Further joining details will be contained in your booking confirmation email, please ensure you read these and carry out the pre-requisite instructions prior to your appointment.

Demand for one-to-one support is higher than usual. We therefore ask that you give at least 24 hour notice of cancellation, where possible, so that your place can be given to a student on the waiting list. You will be contacted if you fail to attend the session, without notice of cancellation.
