Description

This briefing provides a summary of the precautions and safe working protocol related to working at the Department during the Covid-19 Pandemic 2020.

Note: New staff, students, visitors and equipment users requiring card access will still need to complete the usual Departmental Safety Induction. If you fall into this category, contact the Departmental Safety Officer (safety@phy.cam.ac.uk).

Once you have booked this 'course', you will receive a confirmation email with a link to the course which is run on Moodle. You must book first - if not, there will be no record shown on your training history and you will not be given access. You will be enrolled on the Moodle course by the Safety Team when your local administrator(s) puts your name on the list of people authorised to work at the Cavendish during the current arrangements for the pandemic. You will not be able to enroll yourself onto the Moodle course.

Target audience

Staff, students and registered visitors of the Department of Physics who have been given permission by their PIs and Silver Team to carry out practical work at the Department.

Objectives

When they have completed this briefing, participants should be able to:

  • Summarise the Department strategy on working during the Covid-19 Pandemic
  • Outline what has been done in the Department to minimise contact and ensure safety while allowing practical work
  • Describe how to avoid transmission of the virus
  • Outline what is required of them
  • Explain what to do in a fire or first aid emergency
  • Take the correct action if they are/become ill
  • Explain how to sanitise their hands with water and soap or handgel
  • Contact the relevant persons to get more help or report problems
Aims

This briefing aims to provide information on:

  • The Department strategy and measures to control risks from SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes Covid-19 (aka Coronavirus)
  • What you will be expected to do to protect yourself and others at work
Format

Online presentation completed at the participant's pace (in one go), followed by a test

Assessment

There will be a short online test to complete once you have finished the briefing. If you fail the test, we will contact you.

Access to Physics Buildings

Your card will be remotely activated by the Facilities team for access to your authorised buildings, when:

  • You have completed this Safety Briefing and passed the Test;
  • Your manager or supervisor has carried out and recorded a "return to work" conversation with you;
  • Actions from the return to work conversation have been completed (e.g. personal risk assessment if you have specific needs) AND
  • Any other department wide essential actions have been completed.

Once all the requirements are met, you will receive a personal email from within 2 working days from HR (or if you are a graduate student, from the Graduate Office), confirming you may return.

Please wait for this email and do not contact the Safety Team to ask about your card activation - we have no information about it.

Duration

One session of approximately 1 hour for the presentation, plus time for the test.

Frequency

Needs to be completed and passed once by the participant. (Repeats are possible in case of not passing the test).
