EndNote: Introduction to a Reference Management Program (Self-paced)
BeginnersPrerequisitesUpdated

Thu 30 Oct 2014

Description

An introduction to using the bibliography program EndNote to store references and notes and use them to achieve correct referencing in your documents without re-typing. This course covers both EndNote Desktop and the free, browser based, "lite" version, EndNote Online.

Using EndNote will enable you to keep a note of references as you research online so that you will always be able to document your sources correctly. It can save you time as you should never need to retype references and you can alter their layout with a couple of mouse-clicks.

Target audience
  • All current University members (departments and colleges)
  • Further details regarding eligibility criteria are available
Prerequisites

No experience of EndNote is required, but familiarity with basic wordprocessing on a PC or Macintosh will be assumed.

Notes
  • Participants are free to skip sections which are not relevant to their individual needs and leave early
  • This course does NOT cover advanced topics such as modifying input and output formats; nor does it cover conversion to EndNote format of a bibliography already prepared in Word. For help with such topics, please email ll-support@ucs.cam.ac.uk
  • This course usually runs at least twice a term. If you are unable to attend, you can get a copy of the workbook by emailing ll-support@ucs.cam.ac.uk (the course notes mostly refer to using Endnote on the MCS and you may need to adapt some parts if you are following it on a personal machine).
  • Please check the venue as the course is occasionally given in the Roger Needham Building on the West Cambridge Site rather than on the New Museums Site.
  • MCS PCs will be provided, alternatively attendeeds may bring their own laptops (providing EndNote is already installed) and can follow the course using their laptops with the Eduroam wireless service. A small amount of setting up will be necessary for each laptop, and a few of the instructions in the course will need to be reinterpreted.
  • If you would prefer to use a Macintosh rather than a PC, please email ll-support@ucs.cam.ac.uk to request a set of handouts customised for Macintosh
