Please note, these sessions are informal, 1-2-1 meetings where colleagues can ask for advice and guidance from the team. These are not workshops or taught sessions. The team will be available 9-10 and 4-5 every Tuesday and Friday - each hour can be split into two sessions of 30 minutes depending on demand. |

IN PERSON - Cognos Introduction

This is a classroom version of the Cognos Introduction held at Greenwich House - All delegates will need to bring a laptop (docking stations, monitors, external keyboard and mice will be available in the room) Please note - there is no parking available at Greenwich House. The Madingley Park and Ride is a 15 minute walk and the Universal Bus stops on Madingley Road. Cognos is a reporting tool that utilises data from CUFS to provide users with additional reports and options. This introductory course is designed for new reporters - covering everything from running a report successfully as well as a number of useful tips and shortcuts. Note: This course is mandatory in order to attend either of the following two courses below. What this introductory course does not do is go through in detail the outputs of each individual report. Report outputs are explained in further detail in the courses above. Cannot make any dates? See the on-demand online version of the course. Completion of this course will count as Cognos attendance for the purpose of acceptance onto the above courses. The goal of metabolomics is to identify and quantify the complete biochemical composition of a biological sample. With the increase in genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic information there is a growing need to understand the metabolic phenotype that these genes and proteins ultimately control. The aim of this course is to provide an introductory overview of metabolomics and its applications in life sciences and environmental settings. We will introduce different techniques used to extract metabolites and analyse samples to collect metabolomic data (such as HPLC or GC-based MS and NMR), present how to analyse such data, how to identify metabolites using online databases and how to map the metabolomic data to metabolic pathways.

Our online retreats give you time, peace, and space to think and write. Each session will provide a friendly and constructive environment in which to meet like-minded peers, discuss challenges, and work in a focused way using the Pomodoro technique. These virtual retreats are being hosted collaboratively across several institutions to encourage researchers across career stages and institutions to come together in a sustainable writing environment. The retreats will take place several times per month throughout the academic year and you can attend as many as you like (within booking limits for each session). This workshop introduces you to the basics of everyday communication in the BSL. You will learn to initiate a basic conversation, for example, how to greet and introduce yourself to others while using the BSL syntax and asking the questions. The BSL is about listening to what cannot be heard. It is about experiencing what it is like being a deaf person. It is also about how to better use our body language and our emotions when conveying our messages across. All these skills are essential in our everyday communication and this workshop provides a friendly environment to experience them. The prerequisite for joining is a basic knowledge of the BSL alphabet and fingerspelling, which you obtained in the earlier workshop. Join us in the next BSL adventure! The onboarding passport supports our new starters in developing their knowledge about their role, their team, CUDAR and the University. It has been designed to help them feel connected to other parts of CUDAR and understand how we fit within the Cambridge ecosystem. It includes new and improved activities to create excitement and deepen their engagement. Much of the content is deigned to be self led so that the new starter can pace the content without becoming overwhelmed but there is a significant role that line managers will need to play in terms of keeping them on track, asking questions and prompting conversations that will solidify what they are learning along the way. To support line managers we have also created a corresponding Line Manager Guide to ensure that you are clear on your responsibilities in the journey. This briefing session will take a closer look through the passport and corresponding LM guide, in particular highlighting the key moments that line managers will engage with the journey. |

In this in-person, social media training session, we will cover Facebook groups / Instagram & LinkedIn pages. We will talk about how they differ from each other and which one is best for your “personal brand” and research. We will look at the functions. We will also think about how to post, what to post and how to get over any icks, fears and blocks. The course will cover where to source good quality, free graphics, how to include references in your poster, and advice about how best to present it at a conference.
