We offer expert, impartial advice relating all things process improvement and want to support our colleagues on their own continuous improvement journeys. Please note, these sessions are informal, 1-2-1 meetings where colleagues can ask for advice and guidance from the team. These are not workshops or taught sessions. The team will be available 9-10 and 4-5 every Tuesday and Friday - each hour can be split into two sessions of 30 minutes depending on demand. |

When it’s time for you to present your scientific poster how are you going to make the most of the opportunity? CULP: Mandarin Chinese Intermediate 2 for Business

This course is designed for students and staff of the Judge Business School at Cambridge University, who have prior knowledge of Mandarin Chinese and wish to learn how to better communicate with native Chinese speakers in business settings. For the language elements, the course is focused on key business communications in four areas: Present yourself and your business; establish business relations; business work and travel; and promote your business. Another element of the course is to equip students to communicate effectively in the Chinese business context, through gaining a good understanding of Chinese company culture through industry case studies. This class is intended to help research students in the Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences to develop their skills in reading German documents they need to deal with in their research. Each session will be divided into two parts: The first part will consist of grammar, tasks to develop insight into the reading process, help with dealing with complex sentence structures, academic conventions, abbreviations, etc. The second part will be devoted to the translation of original German texts from different periods and covering a range of topics. Each week you will be asked to attempt a translation into English of a German passage. Students will be encouraged to bring along German texts from their own research to translate. JTC: Intermediate Japanese Conversation Hours

Friendly and informal conversation practice sessions for those working towards a B2 level or for those who have completed an Elementary level Japanese CULP course. Learners will take turns to choose a topic for the session and prepare some discussion questions. Whether you are learning from a resource or a class, you could use it as a chance to practice talking about a topic you have learned or alternatively, you could take it as an opportunity to branch out and experiment with discussing a new idea or issue that interests you. A native speaker facilitator is there to provide support in sustaining conversation and to give you feedback on your language. |

Attendees will learn how to search medical/healthcare databases accessed with a Raven login (such as Medline and Embase) effectively and efficiently, to learn how to save searches and references, and to create and maintain a bibliography. This course is delivered at an introductory/refresher level, and assumes you have had no prior training in how to search databases. All attendees are required to have a Raven login. NHS staff wanting to learn similar material should book onto our 'Getting the Best Results - Improving Your Database Searching' course instead. The Project Management Community of Practice are looking to help support the Research Programme/Project Management (RPM) community. There are certainly overlaps in ways both communities work but RPM requires a specific set of skills, interacting with a complex set of stakeholders and needing a vast array of different skills to bring to the role. In this session we are looking to bring together the RPM community from across the university to discover where RPMs are within the university, and to discuss what support for the community we in the PM CoP should be bringing together. JTC: Advanced German Conversation Hours

This conversation hour offers learners with an independent conversational ability (B2/C1 level upwards) a chance to practice speaking German with others in a relaxed and informal group led by a native-speaker facilitator. The content of the sessions is decided by the participants, with members taking turns to propose a topic and source materials (newspaper articles, web links, video etc.) to use as a basis for discussion. The groups are ideal for those who wish to retain or improve upon the language skills they already have or for those studying for a language degree who would like another forum for low-pressure, informal practice. This is also a great follow-up activity for CULP German learners and can be repeated year after year. Previous participants from German Advanced CULP are warmly invited to attend the German Conversation Hour.
