Introduction to COGNOS new Finished 13:30 - 14:30 Finance Division, Finance Training Room 1 - Not to be used

COGNOS is a reporting tool that utilises data from CUFS to provide users with additional reports and options. This one hour master class is designed to get existing CUFS users going with the reporting tool. It covers everything they need to know to run a report successfully as well as a number of useful tips and shortcuts.

Note: What it does not do is go through in detail the outputs of each individual report. Less experienced users of the Grants and/or General Ledger modules in CUFS are recommended to attend instead one of the following courses:

  • Grants Part 2 COGNOS Reporting
  • General Ledger Reporting

These two courses not only cover the mechanics of running the reports but also more advice on how to interpret and use the information as well as discussion about when to use which report.

This course will concentrate on how to use the COGNOS reporting tool to help manage departmental research grants. These reports can be divided into three main categories:

  • Summary financial information for Projects
  • Detailed expenditure analysis
  • Management reports for Grants due to close

In this course we will not access the Grants module in CUFS.

This course enables users to learn what reports are available and how to use them when managing departmental funds.

You will also have the opportunity to look at your department's accounts in the PLAY or LIVE system. You are invited to bring with you any reference documents that you may have detailing your own departmental codes and there will be an opportunity to clarify with the course leaders particular areas of interest.

This presentation will update CUFS staff on the main module changes (excluding Inventory), the project to date as well as the planned training approach and schedule pre and post R12. Staff will have the opportunity at the end to ask questions.
